Active Older Adults

South County YMCA is proud to be a part of the Active Older Adults community in South County. We strive to create activities that enrich and fulfill their lives. “Baby Boomers,” the “Sandwich Generation” and “Grandparents Raising Children” are all part of this new era. As the population ages, so grows the needs for programs  and activities that address this age group. Volunteers, staff and fellow members encourage a welcoming and supportive atmosphere that spans generations.

Some of the Active Older Adult activities include:

  • Water Exercise
  • Silver Sneakers
  • Clubs/ Social Activities/ Trips
  • Group Exercise
  • Arthritis Exercise
  • Volunteer Opportunities

The South County Y offers arthritis classes both on land and in the water. These classes are designed for people with arthritis or limited range of motion. The classes include a variety of gentle exercises to enhance flexibility, range of motion, and well-being.  Please see our weekly exercise schedule and our brochure for more details.

  • Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers have been the YMCA’s greatest strength for 150 years. At the YMCA your time and talent go a long way. Every hour you spend as a YMCA volunteer translates into caring attention for children, families, adults and seniors so that they can be successful, strong, live healthier lives, and feel they are part of the YMCA community. There are many opportunities to volunteer at the South County YMCA. This may be one hour a week, one hour a month, or and "on-call" opportunity. You could help with a mailing, greet members at our Welcome Center, read to a child, or you could be a Membership Volunteer and check in with new members to see how they are doing with their memberships. If you would like to join the South County YMCA volunteers, or would like to know more about opportunities available, please contact the Welcome Center at 783-3900.
