Programs

Dance

In conjunction with the Shooting Stars School of Dance, other branches of the YMCA of Greater Providence offer dance classes. In September of 2009, the Newman YMCA started its first ever progressive dance program, known today as Shooting Stars School of Dance. Classes are offered for toddlers through adult, for beginners through advanced, and in a variety of different genres: Irish Step, ballet, lyrical, tap, hip-hop, musical theater, jazz, acro/cheer, ballroom and more!

The School of Dance was designed to teach children to dance with the values of the YMCA in mind. The focus of this program is to help children build confidence, establish good dance technique, and maintain a healthy lifestyle through physical movement, while focusing on the YMCA values: RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, CARING, and HONESTY.

All of our staff are qualified to teach a variety of abilities and ages and have years of experience. Our staff have danced collegiately, competitively, pre/professionally, and have taught and trained at other local schools. Some are pursuing or have received degrees in dance, including our Dance Director, Ashlee Bourque, who holds a B.A. in Dance.

The Y offers quality dance training for beginner to advanced students of all ages in a fun and safe environment. YMCA members and non-members are all invited to attend. Classes start at $20 a month. Financial assistance is available.
