Health and Wellness
The Cranston Y offers a place for people to come together for fun and fitness. Known as a place where instructors and members care more about values like caring and honesty than what people are wearing, the Y offers a wide variety of activities, so people have fun and stick with it! The Y’s Health and Wellness programs are designed to build inner and physical strength. Those who engage in our fitness programs enjoy the benefits of healthier hearts, lungs, bones and muscles, but also enjoy the benefit of friendship and community.
Through engagement we want to help "Activate America."
The Cranston YMCA offers a variety of health and wellness programs, including cardio classes, strength training classes, personal training and personal fitness evaluations.

The Cranston YMCA offers many types of Group Exercise Classes, including, but not limited to, Body Sculpting, Power Pump Aerobics, Aero Dance, Cardio Kickboxing, yoga, pilates and much much more. -
Yoga and Pilates
The Cranston YMCA offers both Hatha Yoga and Anusara Yoga. Hatha Yoga produces an emotional and physical balance by joining breath, body and mind, resulting in increased stamina, power and creativity. Anusara means “flowing with grace,” a Hatha Yoga style that unifies “Universal principles of alignment with a celebration of the heart.” Yoga is characterized by inner mental focus, attention to form and alignment, synchronized breathing patterns and concentration on muscular movement.
The Cranston YMCA offers Pilates, developed in 1926 by Joseph Pilates, focusing on the “Powerhouse” or “core” of the body. Pilate’s philosophy is that developing a strong “core” stabilizes the spine, redefines the posture and improves strength and flexibility. Pilates can be performed by both beginner and advanced participants.
-
Tai Chi
The Cranston YMCA now offers Tai Chi, an ancient Chinese form of self-defense. Tai Chi is a graceful form of exercise that promotes stress reduction, improved balance and increased flexibility. Exercises emphasize slow, controlled movements and breathing.
Will be on the schedule soon!
-

Personal Fitness Programs
The Cranston YMCA offers Body Composition Assessment. Assessing your body composition is a great way to start your fitness program. Body composition is the ratio of lean tissue to fat weight and is assessed by skin fold calipers. Your total body fat is estimated, as well as your target body weight. Register at the Member Reception Desk, you will then be contacted by our fitness staff to schedule an appointment.
The Cranston YMCA also offers a more comprehensive assessment of your physical fitness level; our Physical Fitness Evaluation will assess your current physical fitness level by measuring body composition, cardio respiratory endurance, flexibility and muscular strength. Once your fitness level and training needs are identified, we will help you set new goals based on those needs. Register at the Member Reception Desk, you will then be contacted by our fitness staff to schedule an appointment.
-
Equipment Orientation
The Cranston YMCA recommends that all new members engage in a FREE one-on-one orientation in our Fitness Center. These orientations will teach you what the proper techniques are for our Nautilus, cardio and free weight equipment. These orientations also helps connect new members with fitness staff.
Members ages 11 to 17 are required to go through an orientation, with the fitness center staff. For safety reasons parent please be sure to complete the necessary health forms. Additional sessions will be scheduled, as needed, based on individual progress.
As a new adult member we encourage that you go through at least one orientation session with the Fitness Center staff. Appointments are available daily!
