The YMCA of Greater Providence, with its Health and Wellness branches, strives to offer excellence in fitness facilities and programming. Our staff is dedicated to helping the communities that they serve by communicating with members and identifying the needs of health seekers.
YMCA health and wellness programs are developmentally appropriate and help people at any stage of life build positive health habits. Participation in YMCA programs offers youth, adults and families opportunities for positive interaction, friendship, a sense of well-being, increased self-confidence and improved mental abilities. YMCA programs and services cut across diverse populations with diverse needs and attempt to take into account the total health of each person.
The YMCA provides a variety of health and wellness programs, including land and water fitness classes for families and individuals of all ages; health and wellness seminars; educational classes; personalized training programs; non-competitive youth and adult sports leagues; and social opportunities for seniors and families.
This all-inclusive approach is what sets the YMCA apart from your typical fitness facility.

New adult members are entitled to one complimentary coaching session within the first thirty days of membership. Your session includes discussion with staff regarding your health & wellness goals and guidance in activities and classes that will help you achieve them. Session time is 30-60 minutes. Finally a fitness program designed just for people who are new to exercising. You’ll feel comfortable and at ease in our separate, non-intimidating Personal Fitness Center. You’ll stay motivated with guidance and encouragement from your staff trainer, learn how to stick with an exercise routine that fits your schedule. Buddy F.Y.T. Challenge
This challenge will run for 8-weeks. Teams will consist of two people earning points through weekly weigh-ins, food logs, workouts etc. The team with the most points at the end of the challenge will win a prize. You must attend the informational workshop which is TBA.

Start Peddling Inside Now (S.P.I.N.)
We invite you to the training ground of our indoor cycling program, a cardiovascular workout set to music using Schwinn Elite stationary bicycles. Your coach will help you increase your cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength and coordination and maximize your fat burning potential. Excellent for beginners and experienced cyclists. Please wear appropriate workout clothing and bring a water bottle and towel. Classes are limited to 13. Participants may register 24 hours in advance by calling the Welcome Center at 828-0130 to secure a spot.

Cycle Lite
Have you ever wanted to try indoor cycling but felt intimidated? Cycle Lite is a 30 minute class designed with the health seeker in mind. Learn proper technique, bike set up, and the principles of indoor cycling while getting a quick, efficient, cardiovascular workout. Motivating instructors and music make this class both fun and effective. Participants may register 24 hours in advance by calling the Welcome Center at 828-0130 to secure a spot.

YMCA Healthy Lifestyle Program
Take control of your life. This program will help you change the habit or behavior of your choice in order to improve your health and well-being. A Healthy Lifestyle Coach will supervise and help you develop an action plan for change that is specific to your needs. The group is confidential and is designed to provide positive reinforcement and inspiration as members draw strength from each other. Boot Camp Training
Work out as if you were joining the military. YMCA staff leads you through a cross-country workout, using calisthenics and the environment to get you in tip-top shape.

Tread On!
Ages 11-Adult
This is a group exercise class done on a treadmill using motivational music. An instructor will lead you through peaks, valleys, and stair climbs teaching you to use your muscles and joints more efficiently. Each participant will be encouraged to work at their own level whether they prefer to walk or run. Come and turn the tread on! Class is limited to 6 participants. Registration is required. Vinyasa Power Yoga
This is a flowing style yoga that is both challenging and uplifting. It is a combination of deep breathing and specifically sequenced sets of flowing yoga postures. Beginning Tai Chi
This class introduces students to an exercise that can help relieve tension, improve balance, energize safely and gently, and provide a vehicle for achieving a moving meditative state. Each week, classes are divided into three parts: warm-ups, including a simple spinal relaxation exercise, Qigong to increase energy flow, and a lesson adding several new postures until the entire 24-Posture Standardized Form is learned. After learning the form, a student can either elect to repeat this class or move on to Intermediate Taiji.
