What is Millions of Minutes?
The “Millions of Minutes” physical activity challenge is a community-wide program promoted by Governor Donald Carcieri. It is designed to educate Rhode Islanders about the recommended guidelines for physical activity (at least 30 minutes a day 5 days a week for adults, 60 minutes a day five days a week for children) and to get Rhode Islanders moving.

Beginning on May 9, Rhode Islanders will have an opportunity to set weight goals and track their minutes of physical activity through an online tracker that is being developed for the Healthy Weight in 2008 website; log minutes with a tracking sheet that can be printed off of the website or by recording results at any one of Rhode Island’s YMCAs or through participating community organizations beginning on May 9.

Over a six month period, Rhode Islanders will be able to track their progress while contributing to a total number of minutes that will be reported at the end of the campaign – a number that is expected to reach millions of minutes.
