Middle School
What does your teenager do after school? Middle-school-aged students are a neglected group that often needs after-school supervision. Teenagers are looking for after-school activities, and working parents need a safe place for teenage sons and daughters to go.
The YMCA of Greater Providence has developed a middle-school model program, an after-school program designed for teens in grades 6-8. Teenagers from our local and surrounding communities participated in the designing process of this program and specifically addressed the interests of this age group.
The program focuses on the following core areas:
- Arts and Humanities
- Commitment to Learning
- Character Development
- Social Competencies and Conflict Resolution
- Health and Wellness
- Service Learning and Outdoor Adventure
Serving Students enrolled at Davisville & Wickford Middle Schools
Grades 6-8
Our Middle School Program provides a safe and nurturing environment where children are encouraged to celebrate diversity, build relationships and have fun! The Middle School Program is intentionally designed with more structure for this specific age group and the program is based on the four values of the YMCA: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are spent at the West Bay Family YMCA; Tuesdays and Thursdays are at Davisville Middle School. Contact Heidi Morris,hmorris@gpymca.org for more information.
Activities at the YMCA may include using the fitness and aerobics room, use of the Giant Moon Bounce, playing football, basketball, street hockey and tennis. Quiet homework/study time, leadership games and activities and community service projects are also a part of our daily schedule.
Financial Assistance
In keeping with our policy of serving the whole community, the West Bay Family YMCA offers financial assistance to children and families in need through our Open Door Program. Financial Assistance is provided through donations to the YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign. All information is confidential.
