South County YMCA

Middle School

What does your teenager do after school? Middle-school-aged students are a neglected group that often needs after-school supervision. Teenagers are looking for after-school activities, and working parents need a safe place for teenage sons and daughters to go.

The South County YMCA has developed a middle-school model program, an after-school program designed for teens in grades 6-8. Teenagers from our local and surrounding communities participated in the designing process of this program and specifically addressed the interests of this age group.

The program focuses on the following core areas:

  • Arts and Humanities
  • Commitment to Learning
  • Character Development
  • Social Competencies and Conflict Resolution
  • Health and Wellness
  • Service Learning and Outdoor Adventure

We also consider the School’s Out program to be a partnership between our families and the YMCA.  We feel strongly that parent involvement strengthens our programs, and we encourage parents/guardians to offer feedback, suggestions and evaluations. Additionally, if you are interested in volunteering to help with biannual evaluations of the program or to be a liaison with the schools, please contact Jen Stroup, at 783-3900 for more information.
