SOUTH COUNTY YMCA SEALS SWIM TEAM

On this value oriented competitive team (for ages 7-18 years), everyone participates to improve swimming technique, improve physical conditioning, learn good sportsman- ship, and enjoy team fun. Our team competes in the SENECY swim league against other YMCAs in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts. Swimmers are encouraged to attend all Home and Away meets.  To attend SENECY Championships swimmers are required to attend a minimum of 4 meets.

DEVELOPMENTAL SWIM TEAM

The goal of the developmental swim team is to improve existing abilities of swimmers. On the developmental swim team, swimmers will refine technique on all 4 swimming strokes. They will also learn diving and flipturn technique, swim lane etiquette, how to read pace clocks and workout sets, and be introduced to dryland workouts. These skills are taught as preparation for a competitive swim team. Limited to 25 participants per session.

Requirements:
  • Must be at least 10 years old*
  • Must have successfully passed Youth 4 swim lessons*
  • Must be able to swim 2 full lengths of the pool without assistance or touching the bottom of the pool
*Exceptions- swimmer may take a tryout at the beginning of each session. If passed, swimmer will be able to be on the developmental swim team.

Practice Schedule:
  • Wednesday: 6:00-7:00pm
  • Friday: 6:30-7:30pm
  • Saturday 11:00-12:00pm

MASTERS SWIM TEAM

Masters swimming is an organized swim program for adults 18 and older and is not a learn to swim program.  SCYMCA masters swim team is made up of former age group swimmers, college, high school and triathletes.  Work outs have 5 levels of abilities, with workouts ranging from 2,800 meters to 4,500 meters in distance during each practice.  Swimmers should know the basics for each of the 4 competitive strokes.  Practices will consist of drills to improve a 4 strokes, endurance and speed.

The team has two sessions a year, meeting 3 times a week.  Participants are encouraged to become US Masters Members, so that they can participate in the two US masters meets.

Space is limited to 35 participants. Prospective Master Swim members should contact our Aquatics Director, Heather Sargeant, or Head Coach Fred Bartlett. Open tryouts will be held soon; please contact Heather or Fred for more information.
