Growing Community Leaders

Since 2008, Community Works Rhode Island has been working with community members to create opportunities for people to live in affordable and healthy homes, to improve their lives, and to strengthen their communities.

In 2013, the YMCA of Greater Providence partnered with CWRI to expand their Growing Community Leaders program to reach the youth residents in the Broad Street neighborhood community. To help fight against the growing achievement gap, the program aims to increase academic and youth development skills through homework support, physical activities, nutrition education, community service learning, financial literacy, mentoring and leadership development.

What started out as a summer program has expanded into a yearlong arrangement of out-of-school-time activities and support lead by our dedicated PYS staff. We are extremely proud of the progress the Growing Community Leaders program has made so far, and look forward to its continued success!
