History
The West Bay Family YMCA opened on Oct. 15, 2001, after a local health club closed its doors. Since reopening as a YMCA, membership has been off and running, with more than 6,300 members of the North Kingstown, Exeter and East Greenwich communities joining as YMCA members. To accommodate a growing membership base and to comply with state codes, our facility has had many renovations. Changes include new shower stalls in the women’s locker room, renovations to the pool area lighting and ceiling, a new parking lot, emergency exits and, to be in compliance with the 2005 fire codes, a new sprinkler system that was completed in 2007.
Since opening, our programs have also grown significantly, from the start of swim and dance lessons to now many additional children’s classes and adult programs. (See our brochure.) With a focus on family, our Prime Time/Babysitting program has expanded to include the X-Time program, which includes programs for 7 to 14 year olds. Today, our YMCA operates to fully meet the needs of the community. Activate America, the YMCA’s national public health initiative, drives us to offer programs and activities that support the community as they work toward leading healthier lives!
